The practices of manicures and pedicures have been around since Ancient Egypt. Cleopatra and Queen Nefertiti were known to rub their hands in rich oils and stain their nails using henna. Over 5,000 years ago in India, henna was used as nail polish and long, beautifully shaped nails were popular many centuries ago in China. 18th century France saw the introduction of the still popular ‘French manicure’, designed to resemble natural nails with a pink base and white tips. Manicures and colouring nails arrived in the United States in the 1920s. The famous cinema stars of the 1930s popularized red nails. Artificial nails hit the market in the 1970s and 1980s
